HERITAGE BOAT CLUB MINUTES

December 13, 2004

The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm.

Officers and directors present: Bob Zange, Ellen Fiedler, Bob Welther, Bob Jacobsen, Pete Manika, George Najarian, Jan Zange, Carl Hammer

Guest: Stephen Bronson

Minutes: Printed copies were handed out. Reading of the minutes from last meeting was waived. Minutes were approved as printed.

Treasurer’s report: John Spoeri could not attend. He reports that some members have paid their dues for 2005, but other than that there are no changes since the last report.

Old Business: We discussed whether we’d hold a Commodore’s Ball as in past years. It was approved that we hold a gathering at Bob Jacobsen’s home at 7:00pm on February 12, 2005. All current HBC members are invited and must RSVP at 847-358-2921 to obtain a map from Bob. No cost is involved to attend this gathering, but your 2005 dues must be paid.

Movie night: Discussion was held on the possibility of holding a movie night at CCYC. We talked about sailing tapes or a movie or a documentary that could be rented if not already available in a member‘s library of tapes. We will need to contact someone from the CCYC board to find out if we can use tapes or DVD. No one was designated to handle this task so it will be addressed at the next board meeting.

Flea Market: Looking at Sunday, March 6, 1:00-5:00 at CCYC. We are waiting for confirmation of date from CCYC. We will ask for buyers to donate 10% of their receipts to the Jr Fleet of CCYC. Bob Z will talk to Ginny further. Advertising for sellers (and buyers) will be done on our website and through CCYC newsletters. Advertising for buyers will be through the posting of flyers at West Marine, yacht clubs, and other places around the area. We’ll offer snacks and coffee with free will donations. Jake will provide a large coffeemaker as will Ellen Fiedler. The coffee, the cups, and condiments will come from HBC. Tag your own items and we will rely on sellers’ honesty in their donations.

New Business:

Strictly Sail is being held on February 3-6. Some board members expressed interest in our club having a presence at this event. A booth is too costly for a small club such as ours, and Tom Kastle has indicated that we may use part of the Chicago Maritime Society’s booth. We would like to assemble a slideshow presentation that can play and replay on a computer during the show. Carl Hammer requests images of member’s boats be emailed to him at hammergall@aol.com so that he can create this presentation. We also need a paper handout; Jan Z will work on the club’s brochure.

Chicago Maritime Festival will take place on February 26. Ellen will work on a program that we can present at the festival. The board approved a $50.00 contribution from the Heritage Boat Club.

Plaques: Bob Z had samples of plaques that can be used for future awards presented by the Heritage Boat Club. They would be less costly than past trophies, and the board approved them.

Membership application was presented for approval. After moving the deadline to February 10, it was approved. This will be sent out in the first week of January to all members, both inactive and active, along with the Commodore’s letter and the flyer for the February 12th, Commodore’s Party at Bob and Jean Jacobsen’s home.

No further business or announcements, Meeting was adjourned at 8:15pm.
