Guest: Jean Jacobsen, Pat Manika, Dorothy Najarian

Minutes: Printed copies were handed out. Reading of the minutes from last meeting was waived. Minutes were approved as printed.

Treasurer’s report: John Spoeri could not attend. Printed reports from November and December 2004, and January 2005 were distributed. The balance in our checking account stands at $1,193.26. The treasurer’s report was approved as printed.

Old Business:

Party at the Jacobsen’s on Saturday, February 12, 2005: Bob J has chosen to move the start time to 7:00 if people wish to arrive earlier. We have been hearing from members who are excited to attend. Main dish will be provided at the club’s expense with appetizers and desserts contributed by some attending members. Games and a grab bag are part of the night’s fun activities.

Chicago Maritime Festival-February 26, 2005

Many programs will be presented this year, but the HBC will not be holding any seminars. We have been given space to display our newest brochure and the flyers for our March 6th flea market. Ellen F will see that our papers are at the festival.

Flea Market: Sunday, March 6, 2005, 1:00 to 5:00 at the Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club

The club is being used on Saturday, so we’ll set up on Sunday morning beginning at 10:00AM. We’ll have food for sale. Coffee and a sweet or hot dog and chips $1.00. A can of pop is $.75. George and Dottie N will purchase the hot dogs, Pete and Pat M will purchase the hot dog buns along with the condiments. Bob and Jan Z will purchase the coffee, creamer, sweeteners, pop, sweets, and chips. Paper goods, raffle tickets, and the ticket can are in the HBC bin; if necessary the Zange’s will get more paper goods. Money generated by food sales will be placed into the HBC account.

Advertising for flea market: Flyers and posters will be displayed at CCYC. Flyers will be distributed at the Chicago Maritime Festival and they were mailed out to members in January. Posters (11x17) will be displayed at stores in the area of the harbor closer to the date of the sale. Pat M is checking with the neighborhood paper as to the cost of a listing in the classified section.

It was moved and seconded and approved that we use the money donated by sellers to obtain Heritage Awards for the Junior Fleet of CCYC.

All sellers are responsible for their own monies; they must have their own banks at the start of the day.

Pizza and movie night: Postponed until fall.

Summer raft-offs will be planned for June and September, providing there‘s an interest.

Trip to Michigan Maritime Museum: The possibility of a driving trip to the museum in South Haven has been mentioned before, but it was mentioned that heading there for the wooden boat show might provide an interesting and fun event for visitors. Ellen will gather the information on the dates of the show, and the board will work on this idea at the next meeting.

CYA publication: Our Commodore wrote an article for the Chicago Yachting Association’s magazine, but we hear that it was omitted from the publication. Jan Z will look into this.

New Business:

Loss of a member: Sad to report that in January we lost one of our founding members, Aldis Darre. A memorial service is being planned for this summer. HBC will present a wreath at the service, but at the present time, we will be sending a card from the club.

No other new business was discussed. The meeting was adjourned at 8:15PM.

Next meeting Monday, March 28, starts at 7:30PM at Vince’s Restaurant.
