Heritage Boat Club Festival Returns To Montrose Harbor
The Heritage Boat Club Festival is back again at Montrose Harbor from August 3-5, 2001, for another weekend of food, fun, and racing.
The Festival begins at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 3d with the annual Founder’s Cup Race followed by the Power Boat event. Lake conditions permitting, the power boats may take a cruise up the Chicago River. After spending the afternoon aboard vintage vessels, one can enjoy a barbecue dinner at 6 p.m. at the Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club overlooking scenic Montrose Harbor.
Festivities on Saturday, August 4th begin at 9 a.m. with the “Sika Flex Challenge” where two-person teams spend the morning building boats that will be raced on Sunday. The boats will be on display throughout the day. Wind down your evening with a buffet dinner from 6 – 8 p.m. and enjoy listening to the Frank Paul Band at Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club.
The Sika Cup Challenge Race at 10 a.m. on Sunday, August 5th winds the weekend down. Watch the boats built on Saturday race through Montrose Harbor and see who wins Best of Show.
Throughout the Festival, one may browse through the lawn displays, as well as stop by and meet representatives from the Chicago Police Department Marine Unit, the US Coast Guard, Doyle Sails, and the ACBS Club. Antique cars will also be on display.
The $25 registration fee includes participation in the Founder’s Cup Race, the Power Boat Event, and the Sika Challenge. You will also receive a commemorative plaque and access to the Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club facilities. The fee includes one dinner ticket to Friday’s barbecue and Saturday’s party and entertainment. Additional dinner tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for children.
